Chief of Schools
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the nation's 11th largest school division, is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the Chief of Schools. FCPS, located in the Washington, DC region, serves a diverse student population of more than 181,000 students in grades pre-K through 12. FCPS students and families come from all over the world and speak nearly 200 languages. It is the third largest employer in Virginia with over 25,000 full-time employees and an operating budget of over $3.4 billion.
The Chief of Schools will provide leadership, oversight, and direction for the effective and efficient operation and academic management of schools in accordance with School Board policy and strategic initiatives; ensure appropriate and equitable educational opportunities for all students; directly supervise the region assistant superintendents (RAS) and student activities and athletics program; regularly interact with school administrators, departmental leadership, and other central office staff, and serve as a liaison between the Division Superintendent's office and various Fairfax County Public Schools constituencies, as appropriate.
Qualifications include a postgraduate professional education license with endorsement in administration and supervision PreK-12 and eligibility for the Virginia Division Superintendent license or certification, as well as a minimum of eight years of progressively more responsible, relevant, successful experience. A doctoral degree is preferred. A regionally competitive salary and benefits package will be offered.
