Director, Content/USA TODAY Travel 10Best, Executive Director, GM

 

Gannett is looking for a Executive Director, GM to oversee USA TODAY’s travel and destination portfolio, 10Best.com and its popular Readers’ Choice Awards.

 

We are seeking a growth-minded GM who will be able to innovate and significantly grow the current business, expanding audience, ad and affiliate revenue and our successful licensing program. 

 

As the GM, you will set and execute on a strategic plan for the business and will manage a dedicated cross-functional team of editorial, product and sales talent.

 

We are seeking someone who is passionate about travel, the travel lifestyle and hometown pride and knows how to create an experience that delights users and encourages engagement and retention. 

 

You are savvy about digital business models, ways to monetize content and are not scared to experiment with something new.  

 

This is a full-time, remote, salaried position.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the USA Today 10Best P&L guiding the business to achieve revenue and profit targets.
  • Define the strategic vision, high-level milestones, and KPIs required to significantly grow the audience and revenue of USA Today 10Best and travel. Provide insight, direction, and leadership to the team to execute and operationalize this strategic vision.
  • Innovate the business to launch new products and experiment with new revenue streams.
  • Develop new partnerships and business relationships with outside companies that will help Gannett’s travel business grow.
  • Optimize and grow existing travel affiliate business and Reader’s Choice Awards licensing and accolades business.
  • Partner with Ad Sales to help ideate and sell larger sponsorships across the travel vertical.
  • Work across the organization to help Gannett sites integrate USA 10Best and other travel content and features such as booking and lead generation tools.
  • Collaborate across different divisions of Gannett including Ad Sales, Product, Marketing and other editorial teams.
  • Manage relations with third-party partners and consultants supporting USA Today 10Best and travel and represent the business in discussions with potential partners and other stakeholders.  

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in journalism or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA or relevant advanced degree is preferable.
  • 3-5 years of experience in managing the P&L of a digital business, ideally in the travel or tourism space.
    10+ years of experience in digital publishing.
  • Some affiliate/ecommerce experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated successes with defining and executing strategic goals.
  • The ability to think critically and strategically solve complex business problems, interpret analyses, and present solutions that address business needs.
  • Experience identifying, analyzing, and using data to independently test theories, confirm assumptions, and measure success via iteration and with attention to detail.
  • A passion for travel and the best hometown experiences.
  • A bias towards leading others into action, versus doing by yourself.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Fantastic interpersonal skills. You are a team player, and people love to work with you.
  • Employment is contingent on passing a post-offer pre-employment background check.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $68,400 and $161,000. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
