Job Description
This position performs highly skilled general trades tasks with the responsibility of preparing estimates, selecting materials, maintaining work records, and providing direction and expertise to a work crew; serve as a trades technician performing a variety of general trades tasks. Inspect and submit reports on all contracted work in progress and upon completion. Serves as Campus specialist for lock and door maintenance. This is an entry to mid-level position.
Duties and Tasks:
- Provide necessary skill set including but not limited to drywall, flooring (ex: ceramic tile, carpet, VCT) painting, ceiling tile and grid, door and hardware repair.
- Be able to construct and install a variety of office and classroom items such as bulletin boards, display panels and racks.
- Repair office and classroom furniture as necessary.
- Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements of assigned projects and tasks.
- Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed for completion of tasked assignment.
- Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements. Build window frames, doors, staircases and frame buildings by using raw materials or per-constructed items.
- Inspect facilities daily and conduct repairs or maintenance as needed.
- Consult on doors, locks, hardware for campus buildings.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Required KSAs:
- Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of maintenance, repair and replacement of Carpentry equipment
- Ability to inspect and maintain a variety of equipment to include, but not limited to, all doors and locks and repairs as necessary on daily basis
- Checks all buildings on daily basis for items requiring corrective actions to satisfy preventive maintenance requirements within the month assigned
- Conduct roof inspections and make repairs as appropriate
- Ability to follow verbal instruction and work independently
- Ability to work with little or no supervision and make sound decisions independently
- Proficient in the use of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools, as well as service manuals and all diagnostic equipment related to the trade
- Ability to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis
- Ability to function in close quarters, or cramped environments
- Ability to operate all required equipment
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or GED
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
- Some experience in carpentry, painting, building maintenance, room modifications, and door and lock repairs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Journeyman General Building Engineers Trade License.
- Some experience working in a campus environment.
- Some experience working on doors, locks, and hardware.
