Postdoctoral Scholarship, The Center for Healthcare and Policy Research

The Center for Health Care and Policy Research (CHCPR) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to support a growing externally funded interdisciplinary health services research agenda. CHCPR supports a community of forty-three scholar investigators with disciplinary backgrounds in health economics, public and population health, medical decision-making, medicine, sociology, prevention, and various other fields including specific areas of methodological expertise. CHCPR employs seven full and part-time staff supporting research projects in excess of $2.5M. Staff includes Masters trained project managers, qualitative data managers and analysts, and quantitative data analysts and programmers, in addition to professional staff that manages grant proposals, budgets, and sponsors' fiscal reporting requirements. CHCPR has the capacity to conduct rigorous mixed-methods evaluations and field studies. Our team is experienced in working collaboratively with funders to sharpen project goals, to allow for evolution in project scope, and to work productively with others to ensure an evaluation's success. Just a few of our current projects include research on the Estimation of Societal Costs to States Due to the Opioid Epidemic; Diabetes Prevention Program; Disparities in the Quality of Inter-Hospital Transfers; Evaluation of the Pennsylvania Rural Health Model; and Examining Drivers of Differences in Measures of Cancer Treatment within the Military Health System.

The successful applicant will join a vibrant team of scholars and benefit from mentorship while contributing to the writing of manuscripts and grants, and execution of research programs that align well with the candidate's own areas of research interest, with the goal of enhancing the candidate's own curriculum vitae and academic portfolio. Excellent organizational and research project management skills as well as excellent verbal and written English communication skills are required in addition to appropriate scientific experience.

A successful candidate should possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent training in a health services research-related field, which could include economics, psychology, public policy, information systems and informatics, and demography. The position requires a demonstrated capacity for conducting high-quality research and interest in developing through mentorship additional experience in one or more of the following areas: applied quantitative methods, qualitative methods and mixed methods health services research. This is a term appointment for one year from the date of hire with an excellent possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate must be committed to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community. Penn State is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusion that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engage all individuals to help them thrive. We value inclusion as a core strength and an essential element of our public service mission.
