Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. is hiring a staff attorney to work in its Tucson Office. The work would be split between the Domestic Relations Unit and the Intake Unit. Duties include undertaking a general civil litigation caseload consisting primarily of family law cases with an emphasis on serving survivors of domestic violence, interviewing clients, giving legal advice and providing brief services , keeping current on the state of the law and procedures within SALA areas of practice, conducting legal research, preparing and drafting legal documents and pleadings, making recommendations regarding triage of applications, providing referrals to other resources as appropriate, participation in training activities, participation in the community legal education program of SALA, and performing any other legal related duties as requested or assigned by the Executive Director or his/her designee. SALA provides services to the poverty community of nine counties in southeastern Arizona. The Native American component also serves eleven tribal communities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Applicants must be a member of the Arizona Bar or if licensed in another jurisdiction eligible to be admitted to practice by special rule; applicants must have a minimum of 2 years' experience;
  2. Applicants must exhibit a high degree of sensitivity to the problems of the low-income community and should be able to work with low-income and community groups.
  3. Applicants should be knowledgeable in the area of general civil practice and specifically general civil practice on behalf of the low-income community.
  4. Bilingual English\Spanish helpful

COMPENSATION: Salary range $50,050 - $86,962; Up to five percent additional compensation to individuals fluent in Spanish. Payment of bar exam and admission fees for those not yet admitted. Student loan repayment assistance. Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility. Excellent benefits package including health insurance, disability insurance, and pension plan.
