The Assistant General Counsel works as part of a collaborative legal team that provides legal counsel and advice to SSM Health and its affiliates and ministries operating in Missouri and Illinois. The Missouri and Illinois region of SSM Health includes eleven hospitals, three medical groups, home care and hospice operations, two accountable care organizations, a clinically integrated organization, and two managed care organizations.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel and advice on all aspect's incident to the business operations and corporate requirements of SSM Health, its affiliates and ministries.
- Participate in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures, and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters.
- Select, retain, manage and evaluate outside counsel.
- Work collaboratively with the SSM Health Governmental Affairs department in writing and evaluating draft legislation and participating in the legislative process.
- Provide legal counsel and advise on regulatory compliance matters and work collaboratively with SSM Health's operations, compliance, and privacy teams to ensure SSM Health conducts its business in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations, including the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and HIPAA.
- Provide legal counsel and advice on risk management issues, patient rights, bio-ethical issues and work collaboratively with SSM Health's operations, risk management, and safety teams.
- Provide legal counsel and advice to a diverse group of internal clients on a variety of issues associated with operating SSM Health's health care ministries, including: reimbursement, revenue cycle, 340b, pharmacy, managed care, federal and state health care programs, finance, licensing, supply chain, disputes, certificate of need, tax issues, transactions, and corporate governance.
- Prepare materials, present information and conduct presentations to individuals throughout SSM Health.
- Develop effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state and federal laws.
- Responsible for adherence to the departmental budget.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and member in good standing of a state bar association
Experience- Five years health law experience
