DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Division of Student Affairs and Success provides campus-wide coordination and leadership for student success programs and activities across departments, divisions, colleges, and administrative units. The Student Affairs and Success Division includes Career Success, the Student Success Resource Centers, Dean of Students, Student Conduct, and Student Health, which all provide direct services and resources to students, and the Student Success Equity Research Center (SSERC), which provides data, research, and evaluation support for the campus and manages the adviser case management, early alert, and predictive analytics systems that are part of the student success initiatives.

JOB SUMMARY

The Learning Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) / Work-Study Coordinator works closely with the Associate Director of Student Employment and Experiential Learning to implement the Learning Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) at UC Santa Cruz. LAEP provides funding for meaningful and career-relevant on-campus research opportunities and off-campus career-relevant opportunities for eligible students, similar to the Federal Work-Study program. The LAEP / Work-Study Coordinator recruits sites for LAEP and off-campus work-study opportunities, advertises and assesses students' eligibility to participate in LAEP, assists with the placement process for eligible students in LAEP positions, and collects and reports data needed about LAEP and off-campus work-study opportunities. The LAEP / Work-Study Coordinator builds relationships with on and off-campus employers interested in supporting UC Santa Cruz students' growth and development and assists them in determining the best way to recruit students for their organization. Working alongside the Career Success team, the LAEP / Work-Study Coordinator supports the creation and placement of students into meaningful funded experiential learning opportunities.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $65,000 - $73,300 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

60% - Learning Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) coordination
  • Oversee implementing the Learning Aligned Employment Program.
  • Recruit potential on campus research-oriented sites and potential off-campus sites for LAEP.
  • Distribute and review contracts to potential sites and serve as a first point of contact for questions related to LAEP.
  • Conduct site visits to prospective LAEP sites.
  • Create and oversee an application process for students interested in LAEP.
  • Advertise and recruit LAEP-eligible students.
  • Facilitate the placement process for LAEP-eligible students.
  • Collect and report data on LAEP on a yearly basis.
  • Build long-term plans to support LAEP program and ideas of how to continue funding once the LAEP grant funds are exhausted.

20% - Off Campus Work-Study recruitment and support
  • Recruit potential off campus sites for off-campus work-study.
  • Distribute and review contracts to potential sites and serve as the first point of contact for questions related to off-campus work-study.
  • Conduct site visits to prospective off-campus work-study sites.

10% - Targeted employer outreach
  • Research and identify potential new employers that interest UC Santa Cruz students, collaborating with Career Success staff to identify students' interests.
  • Build and maintain relationships with these potential new employers, connecting employers to relevant Career Success staff and resources.

10% - Other Duties
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to ensure knowledge and expertise in student employment, career readiness, and career development.
  • Represent UC Santa Cruz as needed in meetings.
  • Complete special projects, committee assignments, and any other duties as assigned by the Associate Director or Executive Director.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs and identify problems.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong organization skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
  • Experience in human resources, employment, staffing, talent acquisition or related career paths.
  • Previous experience with the Handshake platform.
  • Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.


SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • The selected candidate will be required to work a hybrid work schedule and must be able to work able to work successfully from a home/remote office and be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
  • Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed
    including UC compliance training.
  • Ability to travel within a defined regional or service area.
